How could bull riding possibly compare to the music industry? We sit down with upcoming PBR star, Pistol Robinson, and find out. The Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series comes to Madison Square Garden, January 6-8.
1. If you could choose any song as your anthem, what would it be and why?
I actually have a few that are played for me at events. Awolnation - “Sail”, Notorious B.I.G. – “Juicy”, and Spice Girls – “Wannabe”.
2. As a professional bull rider - one of the toughest men alive – has there ever been a song that made you cry?
Haven't cried about a song that I can remember, but I think Adele has some emotional songs.
3. What music artist, if any, do you think could handle riding a bull?
Besides our resident country singer & bull rider, Colby Yates, I can't think of one. I would guess a rock singer would probably come closest; Kid Rock for instance.
4. Is it a requirement for all bull riders to love country music?
It's not a requirement to love country music. I like it because they tell great stories.
5. Are there any music artists that could possibly intimidate you more than coming face to face with a bull?
As far as intimidating factor, bulls are going to win every time. I wouldn't mind squaring off with Kanye West though!
6. If you could sing a duet with any artist, who would it be and why?
If I was to sing a duet, I would choose Pink. Like a hardcore rock song.
7. Can you relate a specific song or genre to any memory you have from your career?
I remember when I got my first CD player. I listened to No Doubt - “Spiderweb” and Spice Girls – “Wannabe”, over and over. Hence the reason they play Spice Girls for me now. It’s been a running joke with the current soundman.
8. Do you think there’s more pressure to ride a bull or play a sold out show here at Madison Square Garden?
I would think the pressure for a bull rider or singer would be equal. Swap roles then maybe the pressure would really get going.
9. What was the first concert you ever attended?
First concert I attended was actually a group of singers in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It was named Texas Country Music Fest, and I remember Charlie Daniels as my favorite.
10. What type of music gets you focused before it’s time to ride?
Before I ride, I like to listen to rap and rock. That good rap too. None of that pop stuff you hear on the radio. Stuff like off of Shade 45 on SiriusXM.
11. If there were a song based on your career, whom would you want it sung by?
I would want Elton John to sing my song.
12. Is there any special musician you’d want to have in the front row while you ride?
Any fan sitting in the front row cheering for me is good enough. Singer or not.
